SSS Helps You Reach Out to Students With Disabilities

Peter Buck would like to thank all faculty members who included Disability Disclaimers on your syllabi.

If you didn't put one on your syllabus, please feel free to make an announcement about disabilities in each of your classes in the coming week. The Student Support Services recommends something like the following:

"If you have a DOCUMENTED disability and think you will need some form(s) of classroom accommodations to help you achieve your greatest academic potential, please inform me by (date) so you, Peter Buck from SSS, and I can jointly develop an educational support plan to accommodate your specific classroom needs. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO DISCLOSE YOUR DISABILITY TO ME.... Peter Buck can be contacted in Tech 114 at ext. 258. His e-mail address is: peterb@southwesterncc.edu"

The North Carolina Chapter for Disabilities recommends that instructors be proactive in their attempts to recognize and work with students who have DOCUMENTED disabilities. To benefit the student, to protect you and the college...

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Peter Buck at ext. 258.
