Director's Message

Enjoy your summer!

This time of year has us all yearning for the great outdoors. Let's not talk shop today, let's talk fun! Here is my personal "things to do" list for optimal summer fun. So, go grab a friend and.............lay in the sun, swim in the lake, start a garden, wear shades, go for a boat ride, eat a lot of chocolate, plant some flowers, make sun-tea, play in the sprinkler, wear shorts, eat a triple scoop ice cream cone, slide down a slide, purchase a buster bar from dairy queen, go skipping, play hop scotch, buy an Icee at Wal mart, turn-over before you burn, lather up with lotion, belly-buster into the pool, cannonball from the diving board, eat a banana split, eat another banana split, ride a motorcycle, jump on a trampoline, swing in the swings, jump on the trampoline again, apply more lotion, wear bright colors, eat a salad, eat more chocolate, spend time with your families, turn over again before you burn, water your garden, smile!, sing a beach boys' song, smell the flowers, take a drive on the parkway . . . "and you'll have fun, fun, fun, 'till your daddy takes the T-Bird away!!!!!!!!!
I am sure you have your own "to-do" summer list. Enjoy yourself! Fall classes are lurking just around the corner.

A Farewell to Peter . . by Cheryl Conner
"From this moment on, I will feel spiritually blessed!" That was my first thought when introduced to Peter Buck. I am happy to say that it has also been my experience over the past three years. For those of you who had the opportunity to get to know Peter, you know from where I speak.

I doubt I will ever meet another person who will have such a profound impact on my life. I know I will never meet a more precious man. Spending time with Peter has made me a better person; and he will never know how grateful I am for his friendship. SCC has given me many gifts; my time spent near Peter is the most valuable gift to date.

If you have not already heard, Peter Buck will be starting a new adventure in Kentucky beginning July 1. I will miss him every moment of every day.

Study Tips - Keys for Success
Reward Youself!

Part 6 - in the Procrastination Series:
Learn How to Tell Time

Not: Sorting through these papers and reorganizing my file cabinet will be a snap. It won't take me more than an hour, so I can do it any time.

Instead: Sorting papers always takes longer than I expect, so I'll start tonight. I'll spend 1 hour filing 1 stack of papers.

Tutoring Makes A Difference

Tutoring is available in all subject areas for Summer Semester. The process is easy and it's FREE! To sign up for a tutor, just stop in at Room 114, Oaks Hall.

Tutoring Update . . . a note from Marti
Spring Semester 2001 was a good one with a 75% tutoring success rate. However, only 19% of Student Support Services students used the tutoring program. I would like to see more SSS student's involved with this wonderful service. Remember, the tutoring program is offered to all SSS students at no cost. Qualified tutors will meet with you on an individual basis usually twice a week for one-hour sessions. I have seen so many students soar with the extra help an individual tutor can provide. Tutors make a difference in your grades!
