College Transfer Initiatives

PrintPrint

Congratulations on your decision to include Southwestern Community College as part of your academic transfer process. Your educational experience at SCC will be filled with academic challenges in a highly supportive environment.
What gets your best friend into the university may not necessarily get you there! Your academic background will be a strong factor in determining your university transfer choices. If you are not a first time transfer student (you have taken classes at ANY other institution,) be sure to communicate this with your advisor.

College Transfer Class - ACA 122
This course provides information and strategies necessary to develop clear academic and professional goals beyond the community college experience. Topics include the CAA, college culture, career exploration, gathering information on senior institutions, strategic planning, critical thinking, and communications skills for a successful academic transition. Upon completion, students should be able to develop an academic plan to transition successfully to senior institutions. This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement for transferability as a pre-major and/or elective course requirement.

College Visitation Days:
College visitations are viewed as an integral part of the transfer decision making process. Transfer students are STRONGLY encouraged to take part in these regularly scheduled college trips.

Spring, 2016  WCU Transfer Days are coming!

Danielle Cansler, Assistant Director of Admissions at Western Carolina University, will host SSS students for transfer information sessions on March 3 (12:45 – 4 p.m.) and March 4 (8:45 a.m. – 12 p.m.).   Students should choose one session to attend.

This is a great opportunity for you to:

  • Tour the campus and the “One Stop” facility
  • Meet with a WCU faculty member in your field of interest
  • Meet with a representative from transfer admissions and financial aid
  • Meet with a representative from the Honors College
  • Get your questions answered

If you are considering transferring to WCU, please plan to attend one of these information sessions.  Pick up a registration form at the SSS front desk in Oaks Building, G 06.  The deadline to register is February 19.
You are responsible for your own transportation to and from WCU.
