As a displaced Contel Telephone worker Sandra Beaver came to Southwestern Community College to start a whole new direction in life. First she got a degree in accounting, then returned to complete a business administration degree. “One day I saw an ad on the bulletin board at Southwestern for Edward Jones Investments. I didn’t even know what the company was all about but I applied anyway. I got the job and went to work on Aug. 22, 1994 - I’ll never forget the date because that same night I graduated from SCC with my business administration degree.” Sandra’s first job with Edward Jones was as a business office administrator. Now, some 15 years later, she moved up through the ranks to financial advisor with her own office in Sylva. “Southwestern gave me direction and for a whole new profession,” said Sandra, who likes helping people take charge of their money. Her daughter, Jessica Beaver, now attends SCC as a college transfer student.
