Seagle “SCC
is an outstanding change
for me,” said Beth
Seagle of Canton. “I
had almost given up on finishing
my degree because I am disabled
and have had ‘to fight
the system’ at the
other schools I attended.”
Beth, who is legally blind
with vision problems that
began at birth, said she
couldn’t seem to get
any help at the other colleges
she attended but, at age
45, was determined not to
give up. “I decided
to try one more school-
Southwestern Community College.
When Peter Buck with Student
Support Services told me
all the services that were
available to me I expected
them to be fake. But immediately
I began receiving help from
services for the blind and
began learning a new way
of doing things. At SCC
I discovered people did
take the time to help me,
like my web technologies
instructor Kurt Burger who
worked with the publisher
to get the textbook on pdf
for me. It is nice to spend
my time studying and not
having to fight the system.
I finished my first semester
well, earning an A in both
courses and am grateful
for the chance to finish
my degree.” |
