Even if a computer’s
hard drive has been wiped
clean or set on fire to
destroy information, cyber
sleuth Chris Turpin can
still retrieve evidence.
As a security specialist
with the NC Department of
Health and Human Resources
Privacy and Security Office
he investigates and forensically
reviews allegations of possible
fraud and misuse of state
computer systems. Chris
holds the Certified Information
Systems Security Professional
Certification, considered
worldwide as one of the
most prestigious information
security certifications
available. “I think
the fact that I passed the
exam and received the certification
makes a bold statement for
Southwestern Community College,”
said this Cyber Crime Technology
graduate. Based in Raleigh,
Chris works with various
agencies, including law
enforcement, in coordinating
internal and external security
incidents He also assists
in the development of current
and future technologies
to enhance the department’s
security. “Southwestern
provided me not only the
foundation of skills required,
but a community of learning,”
said Chris. “Everyone,
from my instructors Mike
Brunette and Kirk Stephens
to Dean Thom Brooks, even
up to President Groves,
worked with me and had a
hand in allowing me the
success I have today,”
Chris said.
