About the Computer Center


What the Computer Center does:
  The Technology Services Department at Southwestern Community College maintains 1000+ computers and almost 30 servers on 8 campuses for students, faculty, and staff. The Computer Center is responsible for the installation and upkeep of all the computers, computer related hardware, software and telephones on campus.

What the Computer Center does for employees:
  We create and maintain the necessary accounts to enable you to connect to our network and to access the information you need. We configure a Novell GroupWise email account for our employees and a dial up account if you choose to connect to the Internet through us. We are here to provide you with any technical assistance you may need for your office computer or any of the computer network services that the college provides. If and when you have a problem with your computer, need to request new equipment or new software, just email us at workorder@southwesterncc.edu or use our online work order form at http://southwesterncc.edu/support, to get your issue to us quickly and allow us to do our best to get it taken care of as soon as possible. If you just have a question or concern about the college's computer network services, please email support@southwesterncc.edu or give the computer center a call at 586.4091, ext. 424.

What the Computer Center does for students:
  The college provides all students with a free email address during their time here. This account is available to students when they start class and is terminated either when they graduate or stop attending classes at the college. Southwestern Community College also offers free dial-up service to the Internet to full time students and allows them access to the college's online services from home. If students have trouble setting up their accounts, they can review our technical support help documents at http://southwesterncc.edu/support/ , email support@southwesterncc.edu or give the computer center a call at 586.4091, ext. 424 and we will talk them through the problem over the phone.

What you need to remember:
  You will have a Novell NetWare account which will allow you to connect to our network from your office PC or dial up account if you have one, a GroupWise email account, and a login account on your office PC. You need to remember your passwords and login names and keep your passwords the same in order for you to be as productive as possible. However, in the event you forget, give the Computer Center a call and we can reset your account if need be.

A few words about passwords:
  To keep your login account secure, refrain from writing down your password and try to make it with letters and numbers or mix two words together. This will make your password harder to guess and help to keep the entire network safer and secure.
