Dial-up Instructions for MAC OSX

1. Click on the Apple Menu and go to System Preferences.

2. Double click on the Network icon under the Internet & Network menu.

 

3. Click on the Location drop down button and select New Location as shown below. Name the new location, SCC Dialup.

4. Click on the Show drop down button and select Modem/Printer Port.

5. Click on the PPP tab in the Settings window and leave the Service Provider field blank. In the Account Name field, enter your login name following the convention explained on the next page.

User name: In the user name field enter .username.student.scc (make sure you start with the period). Your username will consist of the first letter of your first name, the first four letters of your last name, and the last four digits of your Colleague ID number.

Example: You are a student named Sam Masters and your Colleague ID number 0456789. Your user name would be smast6789, so in the username box above you would enter .smast6789.student.scc.

Password: Your Password is your birth date in this format mmddyy.

Example: Your birth date is Jan 1, 1990 and your password would be 010190

In the Telephone Number field, enter one of the following three numbers depending on your location or local area calling:

For Jackson County, enter 631-0500.

For Macon County, enter 349-0500.

For Swain County, enter 488-0500.

If you wish to save your password, check the box labeled Save password.

6. Click on the Proxies tab in the Settings window. Place a check in the box labeled Web Proxy (HTTP). Tab to the open field beside Web Proxy (HTTP). Enter the numbers 10.211.30.13 then tab to the open field labeled Port: Enter 80

7. In the Network settings window, click Apply Now and you will be prompted with a network login. Verify the settings are correct, and then click Connect. If authentication fails, verify that your name and password are correct as shown in step 7.

8. Once you are logged in and connected, you may click on the Internet Explorer icon on the System Dock to browse the Internet. If you can connect correctly, but can't browse the Internet, verify that your Proxy settings are correct as shown in step 6.

  1. Setting Up the Modem

 

1)       Click on the APPLE icon on the top left of your desktop. Select Control Panels from the list and select Extensions Manager from the Control Panel’s list. Scroll down the list of Control Panel Extensions and verify the Modem, PPP, and TCP/IP extensions have a check next to them. The Ethernet, AppleTalk, AppleShare, and File Sharing extensions do not need to be checked for Dial Up Network access. Click Restart to reload the new configuration.

2)       Click on the APPLE icon on the top left of your desktop. Select Control Panel from the list and select Modem from the Control Panel List. Verify that the Modem is configured properly. Your configuration may look different from the example shown. Consult your System or Modem’s documentation.

 

  1. Configuring Network Access

 

1)       Click on the APPLE icon on the top left of your desktop. Select Control Panels from the list and select PPP from the Control Panel’s list. Enter your login name, password, and local access phone number as shown. Check the box marked Save Password. It is very important that you precede your login name with a period and follow it with the full NDS context as shown. The Computer Center should have given this information to you when you received the instructions for setting up Cyber-LINK.

2)       Click on Options and select the Connections tab. Check the box marked Connect Automatically as shown. Click OK and close the PPP Control Panel.

3)       Click on the APPLE icon on the top left of your desktop. Select Control Panels from the list and select TCP/IP from the Control Panel’s list. Select PPP from the Connect VIA dropdown list. Select using PPP from the Configure list. Leave the other boxes on this screen blank.

4)       Click Options. Check the button next to Active. Check the box next to Load only when needed. Click OK and close the TCP/IP Control Panel.
