MLA 3022-Phlebotomy (205 Hours)
This course provides theory and clinical experiences needed for the proper collection of blood and other specimens used for diagnostic testing. Emphasis is placed on ethics, legalities, medical terminology, safety and universal precautions, health care delivery systems, patient relations, anatomy and physiology, and specimen collection. Upon completion, students should be able to safely preform procedures necessary for specimen collections on patients in various health care settings and may be eligible for national certification as phlebotomy technicians. Textbooks, Insurance, Uniforms, Background Check and Drug Screening are also required. There will also be additional on-line assignments during the course, which will require approximately 35 hours to complete. 

(Clinical Portion- Usually scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday or Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Students will need to be available for three day blocks during the entire clinical period. Each student will complete 120 hours of clinical training with a minimum of 100 successful venipunctures at an 80% success rate.)
