Southwestern Community College is an official Pearson Vue Testing Center and offers the 2014 GED computerized test. This new assessment goes further by measuring career- and college-readiness skills that are the focus of today’s curriculum and tomorrow’s success.
GED (Computer-based test)
This test has four content areas:
- Language Arts
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
These content areas will measure a foundational core of knowledge and skills that are essential for career and college readiness. The cost of the P-Vue test is $26 per content area.
To sign up for this test go to www.myged.com to set up an account, locate our test center and sign up to test. You pay online at time of registration. Don't forget to select Southwestern Community College as your testing site!
HiSET (Paper-based test)
We also offer a paper-based high school equivalency test from HiSET.
This test has five content areas…
- Writing
- Reading
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
Each content area costs $15.
To sign up for this test go to www.hiset.org. You will register and pay online. Don't forget to select Southwestern Community College as your testing site!
In passing all sections of either of these tests you will have earned your High School Equivalency Certificate, awarded by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. This certificate is generally accepted on the same basis as a high school diploma when making application for employment or applying for admission into a community college.
SCC offers free classes to help individuals prepare for either of these tests in Jackson, Macon, and Swain counties. Test sites are located in Jackson and Macon counties.
