Read&Write (R&W) is literacy software with tools designed for reading, writing, studying, and
research support. It has reader software that works with online articles, websites, and alternate
R&W also includes speech-to-text to assist with typing and OCR (optical character recognition)
capabilities for scanned articles or inaccessible websites.
Key features of the software include:
- Text to Speech - read and listen to content for better comprehension.
- Vocabulary list builder - create vocabulary lists with definitions for studying.
- Speech maker - create an MP3 version of your text for on-the-go listening.
- Highlighter tool - gather and organize information on the web by highlighting and then
- gathering those highlights in Microsoft Word.
- Scan - scan PDFs and make them searchable and accessible.
SCC has purchased an institutional license to Read&Write, and it is installed on all campus-
owned computers. It is also available to any current SCC student, faculty, and staff member to
download the software to their computer at no charge.

Read&Write for Google Chrome extension:
To use the program online, watch this video to see how to install the Read&Write Google
You must be signed in to both Chrome and Google Drive with your SCC account to use the
premium features on the toolbar and a restart of Chrome is required after installation.
Read&Write Download to Personal Device:
You may download Read&Write to your PC, Mac, or phone. Downloading the software to your
personal device means that the R&W software will work without internet connection.

Current SCC students, faculty, and staff are eligible for free installation of the Read&Write app
on their compatible Android and iPad devices, available in the Google Play Store and Apple App
Store. Use your SCC email account to verify your license after installation.
