Learning Assistance


Free, drop-in assistance is provided by Learning Consultants who offer a variety of specialties in the Jackson and Macon LACs. An Advanced Math Consultant is on duty during the majority of operating hours, for most students seek this type of help. Advanced Writing, Sciences, and Computer Consultants also are available at certain times. (Click the links below for subject assistance schedules.) Learning Consultants also help to strengthen basic skills.

The LACs earned the highest mean on the 2018 Student Satisfaction Survey: 4.62 of 5.0. Also, during 2018-19, 97.6% of students indicated satisfaction with LAC assistance.  

Creating Learning Opportunities

Following are some of the services offered at the LACs:
  • Understanding Basic and Advanced Mathematics
  • Writing, Editing, and Proofreading Essays and Research Papers
  • Conducting Research and Citing Papers (MLA, APA, etc.)
  • Comprehending Sciences
  • Resolving Basic and Advanced Computer Problems
  • Accessing and Using MySCC and Setting up SCC Email Account 
  • Accessing and Using Moodle (including scheduling in-house Tutor Program and Online Tutoring sessions)
  • Studying and Relieving Test Anxiety
  • Increasing Reading Comprehension (such as understanding textbooks and homework/paper directions)
  • Proctoring Exams (scheduled by SCC Web and Hybrid instructors)


Fall/spring operating hours for the Jackson and Macon LACs are Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m, and Friday, 8 a.m.-Noon. Summer hours vary. Click the links below for this information as well as for times when certain types of help are offered in each LAC.
