There has never been a better time to enroll for classes at Southwestern Community College. For the 2021-22 academic year only (fall and spring), tuition and fees are completely free - if you want it - through the "SCC Promise" initiative!
SCC Promise is for new and continuing students and is a "last dollar" program that will kick in after federal and state grants and scholarships to pay any remaining tuition and fees balances.
If you are a North Carolina Resident, you won't have to pay a penny for your tuition or fees this fall and spring if you do the following:
- Complete the college's enrollment process.
- Complete the 2021-22 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Enroll in a minimum of six (6) credit hours.
- Complete the SCC Promise Application.
Please note: If you've already enrolled for fall, you are still covered by "SCC Promise" as long as you fulfill the above criteria.
And if you're interested in more short-term training through our Career Academies - those are free as well. Check out this page about our GEER Scholarships for more information.
PLEASE NOTE: Free tuition and college fees are for North Carolina residents for Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 only. This is a “last-option” financial assistance program that provides tuition after all other federal and state funds have been applied. SCC will utilize various funding sources: The North Carolina Longleaf Commitment, the American Rescue Plan, Pell Grants (Title IV funds), Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) fund and scholarships as well as support from the SCC Foundation.
