2021-09-17

Check presentationRecognizing the need for talented, qualified and skilled tradespeople, Brad Waldrop and his team at Ward Plumbing, Heating and Air decided to create an opportunity for interested students at Southwestern Community College.

Near the end of August, SCC received a gift from the Sylva-based business in the form of a new scholarship fund.

The new Ward Plumbing, Heating and Air Annual Scholarship Fund is worth up to $750.00 and will give preference to Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration students at SCC.

Ward Plumbing, Heating, and Air was established in 1977.

“It is our pleasure and honor to establish the Ward Plumbing, Heating and Air Annual Scholarship Fund,” said Waldrop, co-owner of the business. “SCC has long supported our local community, and demonstrates a commitment to continuing that effort with a highly cooperative approach.”

The college and the local business have a history of cooperation, as several of SCC’s Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration students end up working for the company before and after graduation.

“Brad and his team at Ward Plumbing, Heating and Air are dedicated to growing talent in their own backyard and we are delighted to partner with them,” said SCC Foundation Director Brett Woods. “They have some of the most sophisticated in-house training available to their techs and they believe in old-fashioned customer service to complement their high-tech capabilities. We are grateful to them for supporting our students in meeting industry demands for qualified HVAC techs.”

Waldrop added: “We welcome the opportunity to support future Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration students at SCC as they begin or advance their rewarding careers.”
