Professional Development

Southwestern is committed to the continuing growth and development of its faculty. The College expects individual faculty members to take initiative in establishing and achieving goals for their professional development.
Development encompasses two major areas: teaching and learning and professional engagement.  While this plan provides flexibility to meet your individual needs, there also is responsibility and accountability. At your end-of-year evaluation (Performance Evaluation), you will be expected to provide the documentation verifying your development activities.
The College currently invests in a number of on-campus professional development activities. However, professional development funding is not always available to support individual requests for development. So you are strongly encouraged to develop a plan around SCC activities.
Part-time instructors are encouraged to participate in professional development activities as appropriate and as schedules permit. Funding may be available to support your attendance at professional development events on campus.  Please contact Bethany Emory, the dean of Teaching and Learning Support for further clarification.
