To gain entrance into the radiography program the following list has been established to help you understand the process.
1. All transcripts must be received before the Jan 15 deadline.
2. You must fill out an application every year that you want to get into the program. If you did not get in the first attempt, then you need to remember to fill out an application for the next year. Applicants must fill out a new application each year they wish to be considered for the program.
3. Developmental course work in English, reading, and math must be completed to enter the program. To be competitive it is recommended that it be completed by the Jan 15 deadline.
4. GPA is used to determine a large percent of the student’s acceptance into the program. The most current GPA of at least 10 hours is recorded and used in the calculation process. So, if you only have 6 hours at SCC, then your previous GPA would be used whether it is your high school GPA or previous college GPA. Developmental courses do not count towards GPA or hours.
5. We strongly recommend that you do 40 hours of observation at a local hospital to be certain that this field is for you. You get points for this observation. There is an official observation form used for documentation. This observation will be asked for at the interview. Interviews are usually done at the end of March or the first of April. (See advisor for Clinical Observation Report form) (observation sites)
6. Required General Education classes that can be taken prior to admission include: BIO 163 or BIO 168 and BIO 169, ENG 111, ENG 114, CIS 111 or CIS 110, PSY 150, MATH 110 or above, and a humanities elective.
7. Other recommended classes include Medical terminology I and II. We also require you to be CPR certified. There is a First AID and CPR class that will fulfill that requirement or you may take a one-day class at the hospital or health department. We prefer American Heart.
8. HOBET Exam is to be taken by the Jan 15 deadline. You can call the Testing Center to register for the exam. There is a study guide located in the bookstore. There is a small fee for the exam. (More about the HOBET)
