Notes: To become a phlebotomist in Alabama, you must complete a phlebotomy training program. Students interested in pursuing this career can enroll in a two-year associate degree program or a short-term certificate program at a technical school or community college. Certificate programs, which usually are completed in less than a year, are the programs most chosen by aspiring phlebotomists. Certification is not a state or legal requirement in Alabama, but most employers prefer to hire phlebotomists who have obtained certification. Certification can be obtained through organizations such as the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and the National Phlebotomy Association (NPA).

Notes: There is no state licensure requirements in Alaska for phlebotomists. Still, you may want to take a voluntary certification and from either National Phlebotomy Association (NPA) or American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (APT). In Alaska, as well as some other states, you do not need to be certified to work in the field of phlebotomy. However, certification allows you to apply for higher paying jobs and will provide you with more job opportunities.

Notes: To become a phlebotomist in Arizona, one must first complete an accredited training program in phlebotomy. The National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) is the most used accrediting agency for phlebotomist, and it also meets certification requirements. Arizona is one of many states that does not require their phlebotomists be licensed. They are also not required to be certified.
