SCC announces service award honorees

Jim Hippensteel, history instructor, was among the Southwestern Community College employees honored for five years of service during Welcome Back day festivities on Aug. 13. Others with five years of service who aren’t pictured here are Scott Clontz, advertising and graphic design instructor; Lisa Fisher, coordinator of advertising and graphic design; Tyler Norris Goode, director of public relations; Josh Goodman, grounds technician; Darrell McDaniels, forestry conservation and firefighting instructor at Oconaluftee Job Corps; and Matthew Shirey, carpentry instructor for Jackson County Schools (HUB).
 
Among Southwestern Community College employees with 10 years of service are, from left: Fred Greene, cleaning technician; Sonja Haynes, dean of workforce innovations; Kay Wolf, educational opportunities coordinator; Randy McCall, cosmetology program coordinator; Cathy Setser, financial aid technician; Scott Baker, dean of career technologies, interim vice president for information technology and interim chief information officer; and Debra Ray, cosmetology instructor. Not pictured is Cindy Thompson, college access coordinator.
 
Among employees with 15 years of service at Southwestern Community College are, from left: Penny Wells, health information technology program coordinator; Betsy Clayton, administrative assistant for instruction and student services; and Dr. Thom Brooks, executive vice president for instruction and student services. Among employees with 20 years of experience at Southwestern Community College is Laurie Butler, tutor coordinator and academic advisor. Others with 20 years of service not pictured here are Andrea Kennedy, medical laboratory technology program coordinator; and Hilary Seagle, mathematics instructor.
