It's National Tutor Appreciation Week, and we want to say a huge thank you to all our tutors.
SCC tutors exemplify academic excellence and are positive role models. These exceptional individuals provide tutoring for curriculum students requesting assistance with course material. They spend hours in required trainings where they have the opportunity to gain the necessary skills and strategies enabling them to assist students with the academic problems and challenges they may be experiencing. Tutors learn to create an environment that is safe, engaging, and encouraging, and through role modeling, tutors promote student achievement and academic excellence.
Tutors at SCC are current students, SCC graduates or transfer students to WCU, and community individuals. Tutoring is available at no cost to students and is provided in one-on-one or small group sessions.
The Tutor Program at SCC has earned International Tutor Training Program Certification through the College Reading and Learning Association at Levels I and II.
One goal of SCC’s Tutor Program is to achieve a 70 percent student success rate. The cumulative success rate as of Spring Semester 2015 is 80.8 percent.
