Terry Bell was recently sworn in for a new term on Southwestern Community College’s board of trustees.

Bell, who has served as an SCC trustee since 1995, is the human services director for Macon County Schools.

He is currently serving his fourth term as chairman of the board.

“I have served on the board of trustees for 20 years,” Bell said. “I have seen the college grow and expand during this period of time. The mission of SCC promotes student achievement and academic excellence through the Student Success Campaign. The leadership, faculty and staff work hard to carry out the mission as they serve the students and region. It is an honor and privilege to be associated with these individuals.”

Bell’s new term as a trustee expires on June 30, 2019.

A native of Macon County, Bell’s extensive career in education included stretches as principal at four Macon County schools – including Franklin High School. Earlier in his career, he was a science instructor in Haywood and Macon Counties.

Besides his service on the board of trustees, Bell has additional ties to SCC as a former student. He completed a number of public safety courses in the 1990s through Southwestern’s Public Safety Training Center in Franklin.

“Terry has been fantastic to work with, and we’re very happy he’s been appointed him to a new term,” Dr. Tomas said.

Also during the July 28 meeting, Jean Ellen Forrister of Jackson County was sworn in as a trustee. She previously spent 16 years at the college as an administrator and faculty member before retiring in 1999.
