If you’ve ever watched an ambulance speed by on its way to an emergency and felt a desire to help those in need, Southwestern Community College has a wide variety of options to help you get started this spring.
Starting on Monday (Jan. 12), SCC is offering classes for multiple ways you can join the Emergency Medicine career field. Whether you are able to take classes anytime throughout the week, only on the evenings and weekends or mostly online, SCC has options that work for your schedule:
- Emergency Medical Technician (traditional seat-based classes, 6-10 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays through May 16 at the Jerry Sutton Public Safety Training Center in Franklin; also some Saturdays)
- Emergency Medical Technician (hybrid classes of both online and in-person at the Jerry Sutton Public Safety Training Center in Franklin)
- Paramedic 1 (Traditional seat-based classes from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays through May 16 at the Jackson Campus in Sylva)
- Paramedic 4 (Traditional seat-based classes from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through May 15 at the Jackson Campus in Sylva).
- Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (traditional seat-based classes from 5-10 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays through July 22 at the Jackson Campus in Sylva).
SCC is also offering an Emergency Medical Responder option starting on Feb. 2. That class will meet in the evenings, from 6-10 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays through May 9 at the Jerry Sutton Public Safety Training Center in Franklin.
