Therapeutic Massage

A QUICK INTRO

New scientific research comes out almost daily to reinforce the role Therapeutic Massage can play in the healing process. No health sciences program offers more hands-on opportunities to help relieve pain and help clients and patients on the path to recovery.

 

WHAT YOU STUDY

Courses will include content in normal human anatomy and physiology, therapeutic massage, ethical/legal issues, business practices, nutrition and psychology. Students should be able to perform entry level therapeutic massage with various populations throughout the lifespan.

 

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Employment opportunities include health care facilities, chiropractors ’offices, spas /health/sports clubs, and private practice. Graduates may be eligible to take the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam.

BRIDGING PROGRAM COURSE WORK

The Therapeutic Massage Bridging program is designed to allow a person who is currently licensed by the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork to earn a two-year Associate in Applied Science Degree in Therapeutic Massage. To be eligible, students must have previously completed a Therapeutic Massage educational program and be an acitve North Carolina Licensed Masage and Bodywork Therapist (LMBT).

To be eligible for the program, a student must:

  • Meet SCC's institutional requirements for admission as a Therapeutic Massage student.
  • Hold a current Massage Therapist state license.
  • Two professional reference letters will be required.One letter from an instructor and one from an employer or healthcare provider practioner.
  • Complete MTH 180 Massage Bridging course prior to the fall semester.

Upon acceptance into the program and presentation of an active LMBT credential, students will be awarded the following transfer credits toward the AAS degree: ACA 111, MTH 110, MTH 120, MTH 121, MTH 125 and MTH 130.
