Adding Alt-Text To Images in Moodle

? Question:  I keep hearing about "alt-text" - what the heck is it and how and why should I use it?

√ Answer:   Images of various kinds present a serious barrier to access by users with visual disabilities. Many blind and low-vision individuals use screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver) to read webpages aloud to them, and those technologies cannot always interpret images successfully. In order to provide screen reader programs with the necessary information to describe graphic images, text alternatives should be provided in the form of alternative text ("alt-text"). For more information, please see these resources:

Here at SCC, we are working towards accessibility and adding alt-text for your images will help a lot! If you have any questions about alt-text or accessibility, please reach out to Janina DeHart (Disability Services Coordinator, j_dehart@southwesterncc.edu) or Erin McCully (E-Learning Specialist, e_mccully@southwesterncc.edu).
