Southwestern Community College’s Medical Assisting and Culinary Arts clubs raised $2850 in a spaghetti dinner benefit March 23 for 10-year old Riley Schwalm, who was just diagnosed with leukemia. The event, held at the Jackson County Resource Building in Webster, also included a silent auction, door prizes and live bluegrass music performed by The Bluegrass Misfits. All the proceeds were donated to the Schwalm family, as well as proceeds from the club’s Valentine Day raffle and bake sale. As part of the benefit dinner, the students wanted to raise cancer awareness in the community.
