Duke Energy Foundation Helps Support NCS Program

SCC's New Century Scholars (NCS) program recently received a check for $1500 from the Duke Energy Foundation.  The check will support the NCS programs in Jackson, Macon and Swain counties.  The NCS program, which began in 1995, is a collaborative educational effort among public schools in the three counties and SCC.  The NCS program targets high potential students at the end of the 6th grade and provides extra support to those students through their middle and high school years and while enrolled at SCC.  Each identified student is guaranteed "last dollar" tuition assistance for two years at SCC if he/she has successfully followed his/her contractual agreements.  Upon graduation from SCC, NCS students may apply for specially designated scholarship dollars at Western Carolina University. The NCS program is completely funded through donations from area businesses and individuals.  For more information about how to support the NCS program, contact Greg Bauguess, SCC Foundation 828-339-4241.

Lisa Leatherman, Duke Energy Nantahala Area District Manager, presents $1500 check to Greg Bauguess, Executive Director, Southwestern Community College Foundation.
