On Tuesday, July 25, Jeff Cloer of Franklin was sworn in for a second term as a member of Southwestern Community College’s board of trustees.

A seventh-generation Franklin native, Cloer was appointed to SCC by the Macon County Board of Commissioners. He originally joined SCC’s board of trustees in 2013, and his current four-year term runs through June 30, 2021.

“Mr. Cloer has been a tremendous supporter of Southwestern Community College and our students, and I’m pleased he’ll be serving another term,” said Dr. Don Tomas, president of SCC. “He is a strong advocate of the fact that we’re a regional institution and that everything we do directly benefits the students and residents of Jackson, Macon, Swain Counties and the Qualla Boundary.”

Cloer is president and owner of Wayah Insurance, and he’s an Angel Medical Center board member. He’s also a member of the Franklin Rotary Club.

Before becoming a trustee, Cloer served as a vice chair for the SCC Foundation. He also previously served as president of the Western North Carolina Association of Health Underwriters (NCAHU).

Jeff is married to Brenda Cloer, and they have two grown children: Tyler and Morgan.

“Southwestern Community College is vitally important to all of us that live in Macon, Jackson, Swain Counties and Qualla Boundary,” Cloer said. “The training and education SCC provides to its students positively impacts our economy and most importantly our quality of life. I personally am honored to be associated with such a fine educational institution.”
