Southwestern Community College is adding an esports club for students this fall.

Using Student Life funds, SCC is in the process of remodeling a gaming room and also acquiring the necessary equipment for esports.

“This will offer new ways for students to engage in community and team-building practices both on and off campus,” said Jacob Frizzell, the club’s founding coach and also a Financial Aid Counselor at SCC. “Our hope is to officially compete as a team in the spring.”

Also known as electronic sports, esports involve competitive video gaming featuring team-based and individualized competition.

Through the National Junior College athletic Association’s esports Division, SCC students will be able to compete at an intercollegiate level against other two-year institutions across the country.

Among the extensive list of games students can choose to play are: Mario Kart, Rocket League, Madden, Marvel Rivals, and many more.

Prospective students, as well as all current students, can fill out an interest form available at https://tinyurl.com/esports-interest-link
