Eleven years ago, the Southwestern Community College Foundation launched a bold new effort to create a fundraising event that everyone in Western North Carolina could enjoy and get behind.
That first year was a challenge.
“Our inaugural gala at The Village Green in Cashiers was a great event,” recalled Dr. Don Tomas, SCC’s President. “The weather didn’t cooperate, but we learned a great deal.”
Fortunately for Southwestern, Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort soon welcomed the gala into a more spacious (and dry) venue.
The move ushered in a new era of success as the gala rebranded itself and has been in a pattern of growth ever since.
The 11th annual Boots, Blue Jeans & Bling is set for the evening of Sept. 27 in the Events Center at Harrah’s.
“Our talented planners and volunteers, loyal friends and generous donors have made each subsequent gala bigger and better,” Dr. Tomas said. “I am very gratified that all these efforts directly benefit our students, helping create generational success for them and their families.”
As in recent years, the 11th gala will feature Asheville-based band “Crocodile Smile.” Guests will enjoy a gourmet meal prepared by Harrah’s chefs. Other activities include a silent auction, wine pull, photo booth, 360° video booth and dancing.
“It’s one of my favorite nights of the year,” said Wendy LeMay, Gala Chair. “When you take a moment to reflect on this event’s humble beginnings, it makes us all extremely proud to be a part of something that’s making a significant difference in so many students’ lives.”
Individual tickets cost $200, and table sponsorships range from $2,000 to $5,000.
