The State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) Foundation awarded scholarships to six graduates of the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program at their graduation ceremony on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Southwestern Community College’s Public Safety Training Center in Macon County.

Gabriel Bingham of Franklin, Bradley Buddington (Chapel Hill), Timothy Carter (Franklin), Jarod Lovelace (Robbinsville), Abbygayle Swayney (Cherokee) and Jacob Waldroup (Andrews) were each awarded a $500 SECU Foundation Bridge to Career Program scholarship. The graduates all currently work in law enforcement or plan to pursue full-time employment in the field.

In 2018, the SECU Foundation introduced the SECU Bridge to Career Program, which is available to all 58 North Carolina Community Colleges. The program is designed to help remove financial barriers for students seeking to obtain state-regulated or industry-recognized credentials that lead to sustainable wage careers within their local communities.
