Student of the Week: Amy Scherman

2017-03-21

To honor some of our most tenacious students, our Student Recognition Retention Action Team has started a “Student of the Week” award. Faculty members nominate students based on their tenacity, and the team selects one per week.

Congratulations to Amy Scherman, who's been named our "Student of the Week!"

Name: Amy Scherman

What motivates you to continue and excel at SCC in spite of circumstances you may face?

After graduating high school in 1994 I attended SCC and did not complete my associates degree. I spent the next 20 years raising kids and working full time. I realized that it was not too late to complete my college education and to start a new career. I am motivated by the desire to contribute to my family and to be an example to my kids that you can do anything that you set your mind to and are willing to work for.

What advice would you give to future students who might face similar situations?

I would tell anyone that wants to start again but is worried that is too late, just go for it! There was a good deal of worrying if I was making the right decision, but I know what my goals are and I am working hard to attain them. My family supports me and I can't wait to see what the future holds.
