To honor some of our most tenacious students, our Student Recognition Retention Action Team has started a “Student of the Week” award. Faculty members nominate students based on their tenacity, and the team selects one per week.

Q1) What motivates you to continue and excel at SCC in spite of circumstances you may face?
A1) My career in the military has helped me to keep motivated in my studies. Since I am a non-traditional student it was harder to get started on the path to success. Although my drive to achieve in my education is strong, there are some classes that I need assistance with. I have the confidence in myself to ask for help and SCC has excellent support for students.
Q2) What advice would you give to future students who might face similar situations?
A2) I would give advice to fellow students to use all support services: LAC, College Tutoring Program, Smarthinking, and Holt library. The assistance that students will receive through the use of these outlets will ensure success on their academic journey and help them in life.
