To honor some of our most tenacious students, our Student Recognition Retention Action Team has started a “Student of the Week” award. Faculty members nominate students based on their tenacity, and the team selects one per week.

"Congratulations to Raina Trent, who's been named our "Student of the Week!"

Q1) What motivates you to continue and excel at SCC in spite of circumstances you may face?
A1) My dream. Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to be on stage. Acting, to me, was always just the "grown up" term for playing pretend. When I learned I could make a career out of it, I was sold...but I knew it wouldn't be easy. I didn't care about that, and I still don't. I'm willing to do whatever it takes in order to peruse my dream, even if it means half killing myself trying to get good grades!

Q2) What advice would you give to future students who might face similar situations?
A2) Never doubt yourself. Be careful in your decisions, but don't doubt them, especially because of someone else. Don't let ANYBODY discourage you, or tell you something is impossible. Being a theater major, I deal with this almost every time I tell someone about my dream. They usually raise their eyebrows, looking at me like I'm some sort of alien for having a dream. You can do anything you set your mind to. Anyone has the potential to be great, but only true fearless have the ability to unlock it.
