Step 2: Update Your Degree Checklist & Academic Plan
- First, now that you have carefully consulted with your future college/university, you need to update your current SCC checklist and academic plan. As a College Transfer student, you are either seeking an Associate in Arts (AA) College Transfer Degree or an Associate in Science (AS) College Transfer Degree. Furthermore, you are listed under one particular catalog year – the catalog year during which you entered SCC. (Example: AA College Transfer Degree, 2013-14 catalog). In other words, you should use that particular catalog (2012-13, or 2014-15) as your guide when it comes to choosing the right courses, and meeting the right requirements. If you are not sure which catalog you should use as your guide, please contact the University Transfer Advising Center.
- Second, find your Unofficial Transcript or past grades, and print them. You can access this by logging into MySCC, and accessing your grades and unofficial transcript via WebAdvisor. Contact one of our Advising Center locations if you have trouble or need help.

- Third, now that you have a copy of your transcript or grades, you should update your AA or AS College Transfer Degree Checklist and Academic Plan. Update your Checklist by entering all the classes in which you have earned a C or higher. (Remember that you must earn a C grade or higher in a class for it to transfer.) Include courses you are currently taking if you believe you will earn Cs or higher. Here are links for the AA and AS College Transfer Degrees. Be sure to select the correct degree and catalog year.

- Fourth, using your future college/university Major Pathway as a guide, as well as your checklist of completed classes, develop an academic plan. This plan should be a semester by semester list (fall, spring, and/or summer) of the classes you still need to take in order to finish your SCC degree – and it should be based upon the Major Pathway you selected. Pay careful attention to any specific courses you need based upon your particular major. (Example: Many math and science majors require advanced math, such as the MAT 171-172 sequence – Pre-Calculus). Also, be aware that some courses are only offered at certain times of the year, that some courses have prerequisites, and that some courses are offered online (WC – Web-centered) or at alternate locations (Macon Campus, Jackson Campus, etc.) Consult your catalog and/or an advisor if you have questions.
- Finally, use SCC’s course schedule to search for the classes you need next semester/session. Choose the semester that applies, then search for courses you need. (Example: Spring 2015; MAT 171). Write or type a tentative plan for the forthcoming semester, including the section number (Ex: ENG 111 MD1) and proceed to the next step. This plan does not have to be perfect – but do have a plan in-hand before you register through the Advising Center. Being prepared is crucial to successful advising and registration.
