Moodle Tip: Quiz Settings

 Moodle Tip of the Week
Quiz Settings: What the Heck Do All of Them Even Do?

? Question:   What are all of these quiz settings and what do they mean?

√ Answer:   There are many settings for Moodle quizzes, and they range from determining when students can access the quiz to how many quiz questions appear on a page. The categories of settings include:
  • Visibility - controls whether students can see the quiz on the course page
  • Timing - controls when the quiz is available to students to attempt
  • Grade - controls how many attempts students may have and the grade to pass
  • Layout - controls how many questions students see at a time and the order they can answer them
  • Question Behavior - controls the way students interact with quiz questions
  • Review Options - controls what information students see when they review their quiz attempt, including their grade ("marks"), the right answer, and instructor feedback
  • Extra Restrictions on Attempts - controls password settings
  • Overall Feedback - controls what feedback from you students see based on their final quiz score

When you create a new quiz, the default settings are that the quiz is visible to students, not restricted by date, and students will see their grade ("marks") as soon as they complete the quiz. Quizzes are automatically worth 100 points, but this can be altered on the quiz page where you add questions to your quiz.
