‘Talent Jam’ job interview demonstrations set for Feb. 27

Student speaks in front of a crowdLater this month, Southwestern Community College will host a one-of-a-kind pitch event where job seekers and employers connect through one-minute open-mic elevator pitches.

“Talent Jam,” which is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 27 in Myers Auditorium, will feature pitches from students in Instructor Susan Cain’s Communication classes. They’ll be pitching to area employers who are looking to fill workforce needs.

All SCC students are welcome, and - if time allows - volunteers from the audience will get a chance to pitch their own talents to the employers.

“This is a great way for job-seekers to connect with potential employers, and it’s also fantastic for employers to scout local talent,” said Mike Despeaux, SCC’s Director of Career Services. “Our participants will learn the essential skill of effectively pitching their skills and abilities professionally.”

Partnering with SCC to offer the event are WeSpeak NC and the Mountain West Partnership. Working with Despeaux to organize Talent Jam at SCC is Elissa Hashemi, We Speak WNC Specialist and Mountain West Business Retention & Expansion Coordinator.
