Health & Wellness Fair set for Oct. 10 at Jackson Campus

Respiratory Therapy students at the 2024 Health & Wellness FairAnyone interested in providing or receiving healthcare services – or exploring healthcare careers - will have the perfect opportunity on the morning of Oct. 10 on Southwestern Community College’s Jackson Campus.

Following is the schedule:

  • 9 a.m.-noon - SCC’s annual Community Health Event (Don Tomas Health Sciences Center). 

  • 9-10 a.m. - A panel discussion by second-year students and recent alumni for prospective and first-year Health Sciences students (Burrell Building Conference Center)

  • 10-11 a.m. - Panel conversation from employer partners to second-year Health Sciences students (Burrell Building Conference Center).

The Community Health Event will provide flu & COVID vaccines, blood-pressure screenings, home safety consultations for senior citizens and a number of other healthcare resources provided by regional providers.

Representatives of all Southwestern’s 17 healthcare programs will be on hand at both the health and job fairs to answer questions about their respective career fields.

"The SCC Community Health and Wellness Fair is all about bringing people together to celebrate health, learning, and community,” said Timothy Dean, SCC’s Dean of Health Sciences. “With health screenings, flu shots, student and employer panels, and even a food truck, it’s a wonderful way to support your well-being while exploring the exciting opportunities at Southwestern Community College."

The 9 a.m. panel conversation will feature success stories from second-year Health Sciences students. At the 10 a.m. session, employer partners will share advice about healthcare job applications, hiring processes, and soft skills they've found to be vital for a successful career.

“We’re excited about all the students and employers who’ll appear in the panel discussions,” said Mike Despeaux, Director of Career Services at SCC. “They will provide job seekers and everyone interested in a healthcare career with a better understanding of what they can expect in this field.”
