2017-10-16
SCC student of the week Bobbierae Maslo.

To honor some of our most tenacious students, our Student Recognition Retention Action Team has started a “Student of the Week” award.

Faculty members nominate students based on their tenacity, and the team selects one per week.

Congratulations to Bobbierae Maslo  who's been named our "Student of the Week!"

Name: Bobbierae Maslo
Program: Associate of Arts in College Transfer
Graduation: Spring 2019

What motivates you to continue and excel at SCC in spite of circumstances you may face?
The circumstances I face while in school would be some of the fundamental struggles of adulthood, such as paying rent and affording food for my cat and me. Although it can be discouraging, I understand that a college education will help me improve my situation in life. Obtaining a college degree will contribute to turning my dreams of a career and pursuing my passions from dreams to reality.

What advice would you give to future students who might face similar situations?
The advice I would give to future SCC students is never looking at a class as something “I have to do.” You do not have to do anything, but you should want to. When going into a class be positive and pretend to mildly care about the learning you will do in the class. If you go into a class, negatively you are shutting off your brain. Therefore, you will dislike the class, but at the least, if you go in a neutral state of mind you give yourself a chance to grow and learn. An open mind can go far so my advice is to have that and you will see how much easier your academic world can be when there is no hate.
